Choosing a Domain Name Suffix: .COM, .ORG, or .NET?

Have an idea for a website and a loss if it should be registered as. Com,. Org, o. Net?

It really comes down to personal preference but there are some practical considerations before choosing. Keep the following tips in mind when choosing:

1) Websites are virtual property. Consider the eventual resale value of the domain name. For this purpose. Com,. Org and. Net is best.

2) The world at large is most familiar with the three suffixes. While perhaps a useful operation. Info o. Is, these suffixes have not found a place in the minds of ordinary Internet users. Finally, the sites with. Com,. Org o. Net extension carry more natural "power" and built on reputation.

3). Com is the most familiar to most people. Although a domain name is made, it maybe worth trying to pursue the purchase of the name. See point # 1.

4). Org is typically used for non-profit organization. This is changing. Many non-revenue may "shop". Now, it is often used for sites that simply provide information with no intent of selling anything.

5). Net is recommended if. Com equivalent is taken at purchase. Com version is out of question.

6) Transferring. Org domain (in the event of a sale) requires actual signed paperwork. This can get messy.

While no hard and fast rules, beginners should stick to one of three main suffixes.
